Help Refugees in Nakivale, Uganda

About Us

Where is Nakivale?

Nakivale refugee settlement in Uganda’s Isingiro district hosts approximately 200,000 refugees from conflict-affected countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Eritrea. Recent cuts to foreign aid and traditional assistance programs, particularly as a result of the dismantling of USAID, have made the residents of Nakivale more vulnerable than ever. Food aid programs, water and sanitation projects, health services, and economic empowerment initiatives were severely halted after the immediate, sweeping withdrawal of foreign assistance. As the refugee population grows due to ongoing regional conflicts from neighboring countries, Nakivale faces increasing pressure on land resources and economic stability. The situation in Nakivale remains critical, with humanitarian organizations warning that without new donor commitments, conditions will continue to deteriorate.

Who Are We?

The Nakivale Beacon Group is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to raising funds for grassroots, community-led projects that support refugees in Nakivale. We work closely with community leaders to address urgent needs such as education, healthcare access, economic empowerment, and clean water. By centering refugee voices and fostering grassroots partnerships, we strive to build long-term resilience in Nakivale. Our objective is to ensure that all residents of the Nakivale refugee settlement have the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose.

How do we work?

We receive project proposals directly from local community leaders in Nakivale, each championing different causes and vulnerable populations. We then raise funds through grassroots crowdfunding campaigns to fulfill these requests and bring their projects to life. To ensure accountability and transparency, representatives from our partner organization, the Mbarara Rotaract Club, visit Nakivale to collect documentation, review receipts, and evaluate project implementation on the ground. This process ensures that every donation is used effectively and efficiently to benefit the communities we serve.
