NBG is dedicated to creating meaningful change in Nakivale through empowering local leaders and the causes they champion. In close coordination with our network of local leaders, we ensure that all projects we fundraise for are both community informed and implemented. Below are a few of our local leaders that we work with to create meaningful change:
Joshua Osea:
Joshua Osea is the founder and director of the Hope Training Center Nakivale and Smile for Refugees, two community-based organizations dedicated to empowering refugees through education and skills development. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and raised in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Joshua understands firsthand the challenges refugees face in pursuing education and sustainable livelihoods. Motivated by these experiences, he has devoted his life to creating opportunities that equip young people in Nakivale with the tools to build brighter, self-sufficient futures. Through his visionary leadership, Joshua has become a trusted and inspiring figure within the community. His work continues to expand educational access and vocational training for hundreds of refugee youth.
The Nakivale Beacon Group is honored to partner with Joshua and support his ongoing efforts to strengthen education and opportunity in Nakivale. One of Joshua’s flagship projects is to add a vocational center to his existing youth training center to help refugees in Nakivale develop critical skills that will help them succeed and build their own futures
Albert Ininhazwe
Albert is the founder and director of Refugees with Albinism, an organization committed to supporting and advocating for refugees with albinism in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. His work focuses on addressing critical healthcare needs, raising awareness, and ensuring that individuals with albinism are protected, empowered, and included in their communities. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by people with albinism, Albert has shown remarkable leadership and compassion in creating both immediate and long-term solutions. He currently oversees several projects that require urgent medical assistance for refugees with albinism, emphasizing his commitment to meeting their most pressing health needs while building sustainable systems of care.
The Nakivale Beacon Group is proud to stand alongside Albert in supporting his mission to promote dignity, awareness, and opportunity for refugees with albinism.
Joshua Mushoko
Joshua Mushoko is the youngest of our local leaders and a passionate advocate for community empowerment in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. He is dedicated to creating brighter futures for the next generation by expanding access to education and digital literacy resources in underserved areas of Nakivale. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Joshua has spent most of his life in Nakivale and is deeply committed to giving back to his community. He envisions building a community center that will host computer training programs, an animal husbandry initiative to develop practical livelihood skills, and a flower garden designed as a space for meditation and mental health workshops for refugees. Through his vision and commitment, Joshua continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership and creativity in shaping opportunities for refugee youth and families.
The Nakivale Beacon Group is proud to support his efforts to build a more connected and empowered community in Nakivale.
Jonas Ekombo
Jonas Ekombo is one of the dedicated leaders of a Refugee School and Skills Development Center for youth in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. His work focuses on educating and empowering refugee children between the ages of 5 and 15, providing consistent and impactful learning opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for many young people in Nakivale. Through his commitment to education, Jonas is helping to shape a brighter future for the next generation of refugees. In addition to his work in education, he also leads an animal husbandry program that equips community members with practical skills to support sustainable livelihoods.
The Nakivale Beacon Group is proud to partner with Jonas in advancing access to education and opportunity for refugee youth in Nakivale.
